Solidarity Club
CHERUBIAN'S ACTIVITY

Solidarity Club Activity or Charity Club also called Social service intended to aid disadvantaged, distressed, or vulnerable persons or groups. The basic concerns of social welfare—poverty, disability and disease, the dependent young and elderly—are as old as society itself. The laws of survival once severely limited the means by which these concerns could be addressed; to share another’s burden meant to weaken one’s own standing in the fierce struggle of daily existence. School social workers play a critical role in schools and educational settings. Social works provide services to students to enhance their emotional well-being and improve their academic performance.

The school Solidarity Club helps raise awareness amongst students about the situation of people and their well being. It helps them serve society and the less fortunate. It develops in them a heart for the poor and needy. Donating a little money or time may not seem like much. But if your donation is joined with others, it becomes much bigger. Hence even our small donation really does make a big difference. As a school, donating to charity will show the students to care about the less fortunate in their own little way. In turn the students set an example to society.

Solidarity club functions at different levels.

Sports & Games

Games and sports help in the improvement of physical and mental health, the formation of good character, and learning the sporting spirit. It drives out selfishness, and keeps the temper under control. It also helps the students to be, positive and constructive in everything.

Being actively involved in sports can help students relax from their daily routine curriculum and lessen the exam stress as well. It is a great medium to keep the mind, body, and soul in sync and maintain a balance between work and play. Day-to-day practice in sports can help students imbibe leadership skills. Qualities like tolerance, patience, and tips to handle pressure are well taught by sports. It also teaches the value of team spirit and proficiency to share victory and defeat.

Sports education has a direct impact on maintaining the child’s health and increasing their physical stamina. One of the most important thing that is required in sports is the discipline, which has been derived from the word disciple – follower of a learned teacher. Having coaching in sports helps to develop obedience, self-confidence and the ability to determine winning or losing with extreme will power. Educating students in sports increases the power of reasoning and develops mental growth through constant focus on the current set of activities. Teachers should constantly motivate and appreciate students for their efforts.

Note: a good academic background is an important aspect towards pursuing a career in sports as the education qualification will serve as a supporting pillar in the long run. In sports, there can be hits and misses but a good educational backup will help to maintain a good lifestyle besides continuing sports. Students should give equal importance to both education and sports and maintain a proper balance to excel in both areas.

To enhance sports & Games skills, we have.

  •  Football Cub
  •  Cricket Club
  •  Volleyball Club
  •  Kho-Kho Club
  •  Baseball Club
  •  Shuttle Badminton Club
  •  Roller Skating Club
  •  Kabaddi Club
  •  Chess Club
  •  Caroms Club
  •  Long Jump / Shot Put / High Jump ArenasSports

Sports & Games form an integral part of the school curriculum. The school has special arrangements for indoor games like carroms, chess, badminton, etc. Regular coaching for sports & games such as Football, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, etc. is given to students under the supervision of expert sports teachers. Annual Sports Day is celebrated in November/December every year. The spacious & well-tracked playground gives the students adequate facilities for all games & athletics. The school has a beautiful children’s park with swings, a merry-go-round, a see-saw & other play things & equipment.

ORDER OF THE IMITATION OF CHRIST (BETHANY ASHRAM)

The Order of the Imitation of Christ (OIC) also known as the Bethany Ashram was founded by the Servant of God Archbishop Mar Ivanios OIC in the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church on 15 th August 1919 at Perunadu, near Ranni in Pathanamthitta District of Kerala. Bethany Ashram was the first monastic community in the Malankara Church. It had a unique vision and mission. It harmoniously blends in its life the monastic ideals of the ‘Christian East’ and ‘Indian Sanyasa’ in a particular lifestyle that is actualized in intense and prayer apostolic activities. The name ‘Bethany Ashram’ itself is a symbol of this. A simple and austere life atmosphere of intense prayer and solitude, saffron (Kavi) habit, and community life are some of the basic features of this lifestyle. Soon after its foundation Bethany Ashram became a centre of spiritual solace for the Malankara church. In 1930 most of its members along with the founder embraced the communion of the Catholic Church. Thus, Bethany Ashram became the cradle of the historic re- union movement and the Malankara Catholic Church.

The early members were actively involved in building up of the Malankara Catholic Church in the Catholic communion. They undertook a wide range of apostolic activities after the consolidation of the Malankara Catholic Church with an “All India Missionary Vision”. In 1966 the Congregation was raised to the Pontifical Status. On 24 th April 2000, two provinces were erected in the Congregation: Bethany Navajeevan Province and Bethany Navjyothi Province.

BETHANY ASHRAM, CHUNAKKARA AND CBSE SCHOOL

In 1970, an ashram was erected in St. Mary’s Bethany Estate, Chunakkara for the apostolic activities of the congregation. Rev. Fr. Norbert Peralumoottil OIC, initiated the beginning of an English Medium School in the vicinity of the ashram. Cherupushpa Bethany Senior Secondary School (CBSSS), established in 1979, is blessed with scenic beauty and it runs in the line of the best schools in the CBSE streams. The school is a close-knit intellectual community that combines the value of dignity, tolerance, and respect with a rigorous academic program. Academic Year 2018-2019 was marked as the Ruby Jubilee of the School.

SERVANT OF GOD ARCHBISHOP MAR IVANIOS OIC (FOUNDER OF BETHANY ASHRAM)

The late Archbishop Servant of God Mar Ivanios OIC was born on 21 st September 1882 at Mavelikara in Kerala. He was a multifaceted personality whose life touched all realms of the society. His intense spiritual fervour and enlightenment led him and his followers to monastic life. After the initial preparation, he moved to Mundanmala, near Perunadu, Ranni in Kerala, and founded the Order of Imitation of Christ which is also known as Bethany Ashram on 15 th August 1919. Within no time, Bethany ashram with its beloved founder was instrumental in creating a wave of spiritual renaissance in the Catholic Church. Apart from the spiritual leadership, Mar Ivanios played a colossal role in the social transformation of his motherland. His phenomenal works among the outcastes, downtrodden, and women and in the field of healthcare and education manifest the pioneering role he played as a social reformer. Noteworthy among his social reforms were the number of schools he established. A striking factor of these schools was that the majority of these institutions were established in remote areas. The results were dramatic. A large number of people from these areas became professors, civil servants who in turn contributed their share to social transformation. He achieved more than what two or three generations could achieve in one stroke. He was certainly a true missionary with a vision- a man to mediate, a priest to imitate and a prophet to follow.
